Hi, I'm Luke Stevens

I'm a dependable Craft CMS & front-end developer with 15+ years experience. I make the pieces fit.

Hello! Are you an agency or potential client who needs help with their next web project? I'd love to chat! Here's a brief run-down on what I particularly enjoy doing.

1

Craft CMS & front-end builds

  • I love Craft CMS builds. I love building highly custom, responsive web sites with the wonderful, powerful Craft CMS. I got my start in design, so I sweat the details and work hard to achieve your vision across all devices.
  • I write quality, pragmatic markup & CSS. I even wrote a book on HTML5 a few years back (The Truth About HTML5, Apress). I'm happy writing BEM, functional, or whatever flavor of CSS you prefer.
  • I love a challenge. I've built sites for publishers, media organizations, non-profits, heads of government, IT companies, and plenty more.
  • I'm very experienced. Maybe there's an easier way to achieve something? Maybe there's a hidden roadblock? Experience can save a project before it gets underway.
  • You can depend on me. I love partnering with agencies and clients alike, I'm an excellent communicator, and I'm really easy to work with.

Digital marketing implementations

  • I love measuring performance. I can audit Google Analytics setups and offer strategic guidance. I know the Google Analytics API well (I once tried to build a startup around it.)
  • I'm a big believer in ROI. I love finding opportunities to drive business value through new features, SEO and CRO opportunities, and site speed improvements.
  • I'm happy talking SEO and CRO as well as code. I've got significant experience with Google Search Console data, and deep knowledge of how to (and how not to) run A/B tests. I follow the industry and keep my B.S. detector finely tuned.
  • I love seeing results. Literally. I'm fond of building out clear, insightful SEO and CRO dashboards and reports.
  • I think critically. I think long and hard about joining the dots between a site, its users, and the business so I can provide meaningful insight that makes a difference.

In short, I love partnering with clients and agencies
as a trusted advisor and a trusted technical expert.

Testimonials

Kind words from past clients.

Luke played an integral part in getting Swift Communication up and running. He was always on hand to offer advice and recommendations where needed, and went above and beyond to get everything completed within the set (and often quite tight) deadlines.

I would highly recommend him.

—Jonathan Mack, M.D. Swift Communications

We've been working with Luke since 2009, and he's been an asset to our business since day one.

He has provided valuable expertise in a number of areas, and despite being geographically located at the other end of the world, Luke has always been available at short notice to deal with any urgent issues that have arisen.

—Mark Goldstein, Photography Blog

From our first meeting, it quickly became obvious to me that Luke Stevens was a genuine expert in web analytics. Luke is always kind, intelligent, professional and a real pleasure to work with.

More importantly, he also demonstrates a keen sense of business—a factor that makes him an ideal choice for what he does.

—Dr Mike Sagman, Dogfoodadvisor.com

What are my values?

I believe in mutual respect and collaboration.

I'm big on values, and I love to work with like-minded souls who share and appreciate my values.

To that end, here's what I try hard to live up to:

  • Friendly and easy to work with. Life is way too short for stress and drama. I stay organized, and do my best not to bite off more than I can chew.
  • Ambitious. I'm particularly ambitious for you. I want to see your site do well. I want to see your business grow.
  • Excellent communication. I love plain ol' English. I don't do hype. (No paradigm-shifting synergies here, sorry.) I communicate clearly and regularly.
  • Straight up. If I don't know something, I'll say so. If I'm not the right fit, I'll say so. I'm not here to blow smoke.
  • Clear about goals and expectations. Happy projects = expectations met and goals achieved.
  • Focused on making a measurable difference. Results talk, hype walks. I especially love to quantify opportunities, hence my interest in analytics and measuring performance.
  • Quality conscious. I see a lot of bad web sites. I don't do those. (Ick.) I value craft and quality.

They're my values. On the same page? I'd love to hear from you.
